What is ARTS 2055 MTP?
The Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) is the official multimodal transportation plan developed and adopted through the metropolitan transportation planning process for the Augusta Regional Transportation Study (ARTS) MPO planning area.
ARTS is updating the MTP to reflect multimodal transportation projects and priorities through 2055. This webpage provides updates, opportunities for community engagement and input, and a schedule of events as the MTP 2055 progresses.

ARTS is a bi-state MPO that serves
Georgia and South Carolina. Mandated by the federal government, a Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) serves as the official multimodal transportation plan for Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs).

ARTS MPO covers all of Richmond County and portions of Columbia, Aiken, and Edgefield counties. The clickable Hotspot map below shows the full planning area of the ARTS MPO.
When
When
The MTP is updated every five years. It envisions and evaluates what the ARTS planning area would look like in the next 20 years and beyond. The ARTS 2050 MTP was adopted in September 2020. The 2055 MTP update is underway. Formal adoption is expected in September 2025.

Why
Why
The MTP recommends transportation projects to improve, maintain, and operate roadways, bridges, public transit, aviation, freight, multi-use trails, and sidewalks. To be eligible for federal funding, projects must first be in the MTP, then listed in the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
